RLO Roadshow at GateWay Community College

Donna and I held our first Reusable Learning Objects (RLO) event on October 26 at GateWay. We held a drop-in session where faculty and staff were invited to drop in to the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and learn about RLOs.

We wanted to discuss four things with the faculty, we intended to:

*Define RLOs
*Provide examples of RLOs
*Demonstrate the use of repositories
*Discuss ways that RLOs can be used

We started with a discussion of what an RLO is and followed with a tour of Ocotillo Central which led them to our Discussion Board titled, Mission Accomplishable.

We showed them the examples of RLOs that we have posted and then conducted a search for RLOs that they could use for their instruction.

Some of the faculty who considered themselves beginners in using RLOs found that they had been using many RLOs in their classes already. While others were quite impressed with the level of detail and applicability to what they are teaching.

We also discussed some of the future events that we intend to hold in the spring semester and we already have faculty who are planning to attend.

We were quite pleased with the outcome.
