Using RLOs: A Real-life Story
I have been moonlighting as a part-time E-Learning Coordinator at the Center for Teaching and Learning at GateWay Community College. It has been exciting to work with faculty on pedagogical issues in using technology.
This week, I had an adjunct faculty member come in and I was able to help her with her instructional challenges by introducing her to RLOs.
Learn more about how RLOs were able to help her...
She is teaching a basic English skills class and students had not been grasping the fundamentals as she had hoped. Her supervisor/Program Director had encouraged her to focus on student writing instead of grammar, as she had been.
She was curious as to how to focus her students on writing and what materials could be out there.
The first thing we did was collaborate with our Technology Training Team to make sure that she knew how to operate the technology in her classroom including the classroom computer operations and the projector.
Then, we discussed what RLOs are and that they are found in repositories.
We searched the Wisconsin Online and MERLOT repositories and found a number of RLOs that she can use in her class.
When she left our hour-long meeting, she was eager to implement the RLOs that she had found and was looking forward to researching some of the other repositories listed in our side bar on this page.
