Kartoo.com +Learning Objects vs. RLO Repositories
"Kartoo is a metasearch engine with visual display interfaces. When you click on OK, Kartoo launches the query to a set of search engines, gathers the results, compiles them and represents them in a series of interactive maps through a proprietary algorithm..."
What happens when you use Kartoo.com to "find" a Reusable Learning Object for your discipline? Is it faster and/or easier for Maricopa faculty to use (as opposed to using an RLO Repository) when searching for RLOs?
Many Maricopa faculty tell me that they just don't have the time to find Reusable Learning Objects for their discipline. Lisa Young and I have listed several RLO Repositories in the "General Resources" section of this website.
So, I wanted to compare and contrast the results for using the same keyword search for 3 of the "major" RLO repositories (MLX, MERLOT, and Wisc-Online) vs. the visual metasearch engine Kartoo.com. I am also asking 3 colleagues to take part in this exercise and for them to tell me which search strategy they would use and why.
I will post the results next Monday.
