« RLO of the Month: December | Main | Increasing Engagement for Online and Face-to-Face Learners Through Online Discussion Practice »

January 20, 2006

Spring Semester 2006 has sprung

It seems like time and technology are flying. Doesn't it feel like we were just preparing for Y2K and now here it is 2006.

The Reusable Learning Object (RLO) Action Group has some exciting plans for 2006....

Online
We will be continuing the RLO of the Month and RLO repository of the month this year. Postings will begin the first week of February.

District Face-to-Face Events
Join us on February 10 at PVCC for a LearnShop on Creating Your Own Learning Objects Using SoftChalk LessonBuilder. This event will be held from 9a-4p and has been pre-approved for 8 hours of Faculty Professional Growth. For more information on SoftChalk LessonBuilder, visit their website at http://www.softchalk.com

Research and Development
I will be experimenting with Pachyderm for developing RLOs. I am going to be focussing my research on ease of use, potential applications, and will be developing my own RLOs and providing demos. Later I may be looking for faculty who are interesting in experimenting with it as well.

Conferences
We will be presenting at a number of conferences:
Creating RLOs with SoftChalk LessonBuilder at the Innovations conference
Real World Learning Objects at the National Association of Community College Teacher Education Programs conference
Real World Learning Objects at the Innovations conference

In the Works
I am hoping that mid-Spring we can hold an online showcase where faculty who have participated in our events can share the work that they have done and discuss via discussion board why they used and/or developed RLOs, how they used them, how long it took, etc.

Please check back to see the RLO and repository of the month and learn about how my progress is coming with Pachyderm.
