Researching the Pachyderm
When I dive into a project, I like to learn as much about it as possible before I begin. I do this whenever I travel or try something new. So, as my loved ones back East dealt with a blizzard, I sat in the 80 degree Arizona sun and read as much as I could about Pachyderm.
I read through some literature on the history of the project, how it started with SFMOMA (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art) developing the initial software and how the New Media Consortium (NMC), educational institutions and libraries got involved to capture a grant for development of the software. I learned how Pachyderm was built on software developed by the University of Calgary’s APOLLO project.
I discovered that Pachyderm has somewhere between 9 and 13 templates and each template has characteristics that can incorporate different media and could potentially have different applications. I scoured case and usability studies.
What I decided after reading volumes of information available from the Pachyderm website is that I just need to grab this elephant by the tusks and meet it face-to-face and explore what it has to offer.
I can’t wait!!
