RLO of the Month: April

This month's RLO is Anatomy Revealed and is provided by the Medical College of Ohio. I found this RLO in the Apple Learning Interchange.

I was intrigued by this particular RLO because I have been working with some faculty on the development of some RLO's dealing with sectional anatomy and I thought that this may be helpful for other anatomy classes.

The Apple Interchange has a lot of details about this project and indicates,
" The purpose of Anatomy Revealed is to provide an anatomical foundation for the practice of medicine. Anatomy Revealed uses computer-based technology and a multidisciplinary approach to present human gross anatomy and its clinical application. This approach reinforces lecture material, augments the laboratory experience, and expands the range of information available to students.

The complexity of the human body presents significant learning challenges, and these are made even more difficult in the modern medical school curriculum by severe time limitations. As recently as 10 years ago, a medical student would spend up to 8 months to learn anatomy. Now, however, a typical anatomy course will run only 12 weeks. One of the challenges for anatomy teachers is to make efficient use of available time and to provide students with learning tools that maximize their efforts."

I was impressed with some of the images, animations and dissections and am eager to learn what my colleagues in the medical profession think about this and learn how it may impact student learning.
